Let the first game of the FCS League regular season begin! Check your play selection and use, if you don know or are not sure how best to do so, please PM me and I will reply with instructions.

Wild start in our game, SCS Bulldogs/Brucehum, not a great way to start the season by fumbling the ball away going into the endzone. Was def a different game than what Im used to, which is what this league is about. GL rest of the season.

After a horrid preseason which saw an 0-3 start and multiple changes to the Penguins, YSU finally put together a solid showing. Only time will tell if week 1 was a fluke or if they have solved their turnover issues. Good game and good luck to southern charleston

Lehigh had

29 of 40 offensive plays called

22 of 30 defensive plays called

Made a couple changes already, will see how it changes next game
Not sure if it's high, but the injury bug hit us with 4 of the 8 injuries being questionable or doubtful.

SDSU start the season off with a 13-7 loss not helped by losing three fumbles.

Play wise - 29/40 on offense with only one play called 6 times, 15 of 30 on defence with three plays called 12, 10 and 7 times.

No kiddin RNG! 3 players got the PotW award, and the leagues biggest score differential, helluva start for the Crimson! Team of the week gets a post in the FCS "Facts, Stories, and History" thread. Harvard gets the first one. Interesting that the team has two different pant colors. Know its kinda silly, but I would change my players #'s to match up with those in the pics. :)

The Big Red from Cornell put up a W with a 9-2 victory over the Big Green of Dartmouth. It wasn't pretty, but a division win helps.

Two very experienced MFNers, and defense involved in that one. Good game and good luck on the season. The teams that went for key defensive players early should have an advantage, was that the case in your draft? And did you go for speed on defense? Open questions to all.

Instead of doing it by PM, thought I would post it here where everyone could see the recommendation and could also comment and offer advice & tips on how to get a better play use spread, which is the core issue that this league is attempting to address. This is basically a repeat of what I posted in another thread and I will copy and PM it when a team is having a hard time getting good variety and play use. Will just keep hammering away until the entire league is there.

Offense. Gameplanning/Offense (I use Text instead of Graphical) 2 controls, Gameplan and Personnel.

Gameplan allows you to control the play type depending on field position, yards to go, and down. So it will have an effect on your overall play distribution. I like an even mix of run and pass, I dont use long pass at all, but... am open to having it included, hopefully JDB will correct the horrible performance of long pass plays and bring it back into use. Until then, the use of long pass plays is not required and not advised, but you can do so at own risk.

My settings, as an example: GAMEPLAN....First down, Medium, all field positions, (this is most usually your first play on first down). Outside Run/20, Inside Run/30, Short Pass/30, Med Pass/20, Long Pass/1. I dont zero Long Pass, and I may have one Long Pass active, just cuz.

PERSONNEL .... 10 for all. pretty simple, thats the Ai setting. I will adjust it a little but not much, if one or more personnel groups are being overused. will cut them down till I get a better balance. Some of the play call logic has to do with play familiarity, which the Ai coach will favor naturally. The 212, 113, 2rb3wr, 2rb3te will get called more than others. Also, if you are using rules that have narrowed personnel selections, thats going to have an effect and lower the variety of play selection & use. I would suggest a "gentlemens agreement" not to use rules for selective personnel, get surprised by your Ai coaches call. :)

DEFENSE

Its hard for me to use em all, makes me cringe when I see a 3 deep or 4 deep zone on the screen, lol. But, thats the fun and challenge in this league, to use them and survive, win. Ive played so long now with using only half of the 30 active defensive plays that this is a major change for me, but thats what we are shooting for, primary goal in the FCS.

Like offense, there are 2 basic controls, and then rules if you use them to select defense type and personnel. The two basic controls for Defense are Secondary and Linebackers.

My current settings, which will still need some adjustment to get more varied use of plays, go to Defense, the 2nd column in from the left of the gameplanning page, and again, I use text as the graphic colors are too much for me, are .......

Secondary..... 20 for 1 deep man, 2 deep man, and man. 10 for Corner Blitz. 5 for 3 deep zone, 4 deep zone, Safety Blitz, 2 deep zone, and 2 for 3 deep man & 4 deep man. I will change those last 2 to be equal with 3 deep 4 deep zones.

Linebackers .... like offense personnel, are all set to 10. This may also change some to get to the perfecto 30/30 defensive plays used in a game.

To coin a phrase from my current fav channel series, "This is the way" the basics to get a better play spread, comments, moans and groans included, advice, suggestions, et al, are welcome.

My own opinion after the first game, it looks like everyone is progressing to a higher level of play selection and use, which is great and what this league is about. Anything you can do to help out someone when you see play overuse or lack of play variability, let them know, no judgement, just make them aware. When you scout a team you can see what is what, without a doubt, and if you spot a lack of variety and/or play overuse, shoot a pm to your opponent.
